3 Alarms in Yeadon

nbspAround 1130 hrs companies 16192404 and Rit 03 were dispatched to the 800 block of Serrill Avenue for a house fire. Engine 24Captain Carr responded with 3 FFs. Engine 16 arrived and reported a 2 story twin with fire showing. Engine 24 assumed 2nd due responsibilities securing a water supply and taking the rear. The crew Stretched the 400 up the rear alley and into the Delta exposure. Crews encountered fire in the walls on both floors. Once all the fire was knocked in the Delta exposure crews made their way into the Bravo exposure to open up the second floor. There was heavy fire front to back in the ceiling area. Companies operated for over and hour to extinguish all fire in 3 dwellings. No injuries reportednbsp

Fire Marshall Bill Redheffer recently posted a PSA about the dangers of lint build-up in dryers and the need to also clean out the exhaust vent piping going from the dryer to the outside of your home using brushes and vacuum suction made for that purpose. A member recently found these conditions in a home and you can see what happens inside the flexible foil vent tubing when improperly used to vent the dryer over a long distance to the outside of the house. Although flexible foil duct is cheap, it's also very flammable and the folds cause lint to build up quickly creating a very dangerous fire hazard. Foil vent tubing is not safe for a venting a dryer over uneven or long distances. Be sure to use the proper exhaust vent pipe and materials made from thicker aluminum which is suitable for the heat and free movement of lint to the outside as seen in the pictures with orange duct tape. ... East Lansdowne Fire Company

The company was dispatched for the house fire in town just after 8am yesterday. Crews arrived to find a fire in the laundry room area and quickly made an attack through the rear of the home. Searches were conducted with negative results. The fire was under control at the 10 minute mark. Overhaul and vent operations were conducted and the company's cleared the scene in a little over an hour. Mutual aid partners on the initial dispatch were Yeadon, Lansdowne, Darby and the RIT team from Garretford Drexel Hill as well as EMS units from Trinity Health. The working fire dispatch brought in additional mutual aid from Cardington Stonehurst and a 2nd RIT team from Manoa. No injuries to residents or fire firefighters.
